The 26-year-old wrestler from Bhiwani, Haryana became the latest entrant into the Indian wrestling contingent for the Olympics when Sumiyaa Erdenechimegiin, her victorious opponent from Mongolia at the 2016 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament failed a dope test and got disqualified from the women\’s 53 kg category as a consequence. Initially known as the sister of celebrated wrestler Geeta Phogat, Babita declared her authority over the sport with a World Championship bronze in 2012 followed by a 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Gold medal in the 55 kg category.
