Aleksandar Kovacevic Biography 2026
In all honesty, it didn’t seem like the native New Yorker would upset the fifth seed. He was playing his first main-draw match at Wimbledon on a surface he hardly plays on, he had never defeated a player ranked in the top 10, and he was coming into the tournament on a four-match losing run.Looking closer, he has now dropped his last six matches and his last ATP main-draw victory occurred in Houston in early April. However, Kovacevic’s skill level when playing at his peak is so high that a competitive match or even more looked likely. Perhaps contributed to such an opinion (well, for one author, at least) was the fact that he had previously been coached by John McEnroe and, according to his mother Milanka, had been compared to Roger Federer in his younger years.

Early life and background
Kovacevic is a Serbian national who was born in New York. Belgrade, Serbia is the home of his father Milan Kovačević, while his mother Milanka is from Travnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina. His parents met at a junior circuit table tennis competition, where they both played. They moved to the United States in 1998, shortly before Aleksandar was born. Milan worked at Columbia University in New York after graduating from UCLA with a degree in computer science. The family used to travel to Serbia annually when Kovacevic was younger. The reason he started playing tennis, according to him, was watching the 2005 US Open match between Novak Djokovic and Gaël Monfils on TV when he was six years old.
Aleksandar Kovacevic Tennis Racquet
Kovacevic’s racquet is a Wilson Blade 98 V9 16/19. But as usual with pro player racquets, it is difficult to know what is actually underneath the cosmetic. In his college years, he used a Blade 98 CV and I would assume he is still with that model. Like almost all pros, he customized his racquets, but we are unaware of his exact specifications. He string his Blade with what looks like Luxilon 4G. Before that he used Alu Power and he has also played a hybrid of Alu Power and Element. Kovacevic is an exciting and creative player to watch, so if you have any info about his racquets or tension, please comment below.
Professional Career
Kovacevic turned professional in 2021, a significant milestone that marked the beginning of his career on the ATP Tour. Despite the challenges of transitioning from college tennis, where he had a successful stint at the University of Illinois, Kovacevic quickly adapted to the demands of professional tennis. His career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 85, achieved on January 29, 2026, underscores his potential and the strides he has made in a relatively short period.
My level has definitely been good this week. Andrey is an incredible player, I have been watching him for years. Just stepping on the court with someone like this is a privilege. “When you’re an underdog, playing a Top 10 opponent like that, you’re a lot more free. You have to go for it against these guys.
