Professional wrestling career
Training under his uncle Solofa Jr., Jacob Fatu made his debut in 2012, partnering with his cousin Black Pearl in a successful endeavor. Most of 2013 and 2015 were spent in California, where he competed for independent promotions, frequently forming teams with other Anoaʻi family members. After traveling to Mexico for the first time in 2018, he lost to Octagón and Blue Demon Jr. in a trios match for The Crash held in Mexico. Signing with Major League Wrestling in 2019, Fatu became a part of the organization alongside his relatives Samu and Samu’s son, Lance Anoaʻi. At the February SuperFight event, Fatu made his MLW debut in a non-televised fight with Josef Samael, his regular tag team partner. It was at the Intimidation Games that Fatu and Samael would subsequently make their MLW television debut.
He debuted in 2012, in a winning effort teaming with his relative, Black Pearl. He spent most of 2013 through 2015 competing in California for independent promotions, often teaming with fellow Anoa’i family members. In 2018, he made his first trip to Mexico for The Crash in a trios match, losing to Octagón and Blue Demon Jr.
Personal life
At the age of 18, Fatu was taken into custody on suspicion of robbery. He attributes his inspiration for becoming a wrestler to watching his cousins Jonathan and Joshua (The Usos) on a jail TV. As the brother of Journey Fatu and the son of professional wrestler Sam Fatu, better known as The Tonga Kid, Fatu is of Samoan heritage and a member of the Anoaʻi family wrestling dynasty. On November 17, 2023, Fatu disclosed that he is the father of seven children in an interview with Denise Salcedo.
The duo of Fatu and Josef would then make their televised debut in MLW at Intimidation Games on March 2 by attacking the World Heavyweight Champion Tom Lawlor following his cage match against Low Ki, thus forming the heel stable Contra Unit with Simon Gotch. The following week, Contra Unit attacked Ace Romero during his match with Gotch. After months of feuding with Lawlor, Fatu defeated Lawlor at Kings of Colosseum on July 6 to capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
