Early Life

His mom worked in family services, his dad ran things as a transport officer for the Canadian government, and he had a younger sister keeping life interesting. Wrestling caught his imagination early—Saturdays meant curling up with WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, totally obsessed, dreaming about stepping into that ring someday. He spent countless afternoons in goalie gear, flopping and diving on the ice, which probably explains both his insane reflexes and that stubborn streak that refuses to quit. Between chasing pucks and daydreaming about wrestling glory, he worked odd jobs at IGA and Costco, just another kid figuring out how to scrape by while secretly imagining world domination one suplex at a time.

Smith’s desire to pursue a career in professional wrestling sparked when a friend from Transcona Collegiate Institute (TCI) began training with Top Rope Championship Wrestling (TRCW) in Winnipeg. He decided to abandon his ice hockey career, even turning down a scholarship from Bemidji State University, and began training under TRCW promoter Bobby Jay, whom he met while working at IGA.

Personal life

Since 2018, he’s been grappling with vertigo, which, if anyone’s tried to wrestle while feeling like the room is spinning, is basically nightmare fuel. He’s insanely close with Michael Nakazawa, his old tag team partner, and you can tell it’s more than just the ring—they click on a human level. Fluent in Japanese and obsessed with the culture, Omega’s love for it started even before he could say “nihongo” properly. By 2018, Tokyo wasn’t just a place to work—it was home; he even got Japanese citizenship and planted himself in Katsushika ward. Wrestling has pretty much been his life, though, which leaves personal relationships kind of on pause—but honestly, can anyone blame him? When it comes to chasing passion, he’s all in, vertigo or not.

Professional Wrestling Career

Kenny Omega kicked off his pro wrestling journey back in 2001 with Winnipeg’s Premier Championship Wrestling, and it didn’t take long for him to start stacking hardware—PCW Heavyweight Champion by 2003, then Tag Team Champion in 2004. He even dipped his toes into TNA, trying to snag the X Division title from Petey Williams at NWA’s 56th Anniversary Show, though that one didn’t go his way. Still, he bounced back big, winning the Premier Cup and the NWA Canada X-Division Championship in June 2004, taking down names like Nate Hardy, Chris Sabin, and Amazing Red in an eight-man tournament. Early on, it was clear: this guy wasn’t just passing through—he was here to leave a mark, even if the world wasn’t ready for the full Omega experience yet.

In 2005, Omega competed in World League Wrestling, managed by Harley Race, and faced Keith Walker in a losing match. Shortly after, he received an invitation for a week-long tryout with WWE’s then-developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling (DSW). In October 2005, he signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to DSW

Kenny Omega Wife

As of 2023, Kenny Omega seems to be flying solo. The guy has always been a vault when it comes to his personal life—fans get the wrestling, the theatrics, the high-flying madness, but almost nothing about what’s happening off-camera. It’s like he’s built this little bubble where relationships just don’t get a foot in the door, which honestly makes sense when someone’s living and breathing wrestling the way he does. Curious? Sure. Surprising? Not really.
